What is IATA?

The International Air Transport Association is the world’s airline trade association. The role of IATA is to set the technical standards for airlines. IATA helps to assist airlines. IATA has a membership of over 290 airlines in 120 countries, representing around 83% of total air traffic.

IATA is globally recognised and was founded in 1945. Its members include both freight and passenger carriers.

What Does IATA Do?

IATA works to improve the understanding of the air transport industry with decision-makers and to build awareness of the advantages that aviation creates for both national and international economies. IATA advocates for the interests of worldwide airlines by challenging unreasonable rules and regulations, holding regulators and governments to account, and striving for sensible regulation.

IATA helps to develop the global commercial standards of the air transport industry. They aim to improve efficiency, increase sustainability, simplify processes, enhance customer convenience, and reduce costs. IATA constantly regulates the industry and provides clearly defined rules to ensure that the standards are met, and consistent levels of service for customers are there.
